Life

This past week has not been a typical one, its been one of reflecting and taking a step back to look at life how it is now and what the future holds. With the passing of President Hinckley so suddenly I kept thinking of the joyous reunion he must have had with his wife and other family, fans, and friends. I just picture everyone applauding, kind of a standing novation going on in the spirit world. He truly lived an incredible life, I've been brought to tears a couple of times while reading or hearing stories of him reaching out to people all over the world. It's amazing how many lives he has touched and what a difference he has made in the church and in the world. He is such an inspiration and example.

Another incident that has made me realize just how fragile life can be and how fast things can change took place starting on Saturday night Emmy did not sleep well and her unusual behavior continued on through Monday when I finally took her in to the doctor. All she wanted to do was lay on me, whenever I moved her or laid her down on her back or sat her up to play she would scream and cry. She didn't smile or care for any interaction, she just was not herself. When I took her into the doctor he checked her ears, throat, lungs, and the other typcial things and really all she had was a temp of 100. so, he thought it was just the beginning of a bad cold and sent me to get some motrin to help with the fever. Well, she continued to be very lathargic and feverish, so my dad and neighbor gave her a blessing and the next morning I noticed her little pimple looking dot on her bum that had been there for a couple of days had suddenly grown much bigger and more red, so I made another appointment with the same doctor but couldn't get in until the afternoon. Well, to shorten the story we didn't wait until that appointment because this sore was growing rapidly in just a couple of hours it was noticably harder, hotter, darker, and she was more and more tired, miserable, and her temperature reached 103. So, we ended up at Primary Childrens Hospital in the ER where they determined she had a staff infection called MRSA which I was unaware just how contagous and common this infection is becoming. They had to make an incision to get the puss out and hook her up to all kinds of monitors and give her IV antibiotics and IV fluids cause she would throw up any time I tried feeding her. It was really an awful day, but I just kep thinking how grateful I am for medicine and modern technology. It was rough holding her down while they did some of these things and seeing the pain in her eyes. Somehow we both survived that tramatic experience and we made it through a hard night and day. We were released from the hospital this afternoon and she is doing much much better but still has to take some gross medicine 3 times a day for 10 days and I have to change her dressing a couple times a day. I can't say it enough how grateful I am she is ok and that the doctors were able to determine what needed to be done to get her better. Whew ! I was very scared! Moments like this make me realize I can't take any day for grantide cause you just never know when something can happen.

Oh my gosh Jess...I have really been wanting to hear from you. Your dad said that something was wrong with her and that you guys were taking her in. I am SO happy that she is ok. Man, I kept worrying about you guys. There was nothing worse than holding Cooper down to the table while he got stitches...I'm sorry you had to endure that...but 10 times worse. I'm so grateful she's ok!

I'm sorry that happened! Do you they know how she got it? That freaks me out that things like that can happen without warning. I'm glad she's ok.

Oh Jessie, that is so scary. I am so glad she's alright and that you insisted on something being wrong, finally leading to the real cause. Mother's insticts, what a blessing! I hope you all can get settled back in and that she'll be feeling better soon.

Way to be proactive Jessie and take her in. That would be really tough. I'm glad she is ok though. Hope things are going well.

Jessie, you are so smart to not pass it off as the beg. of a bad cold. Scary stuff! It's so nerve-racking being a parent. I'm so glad that the doctors figured everything out. So, I have been wanting to call you and talk over the phone to really catch up. That's so awesome that Aaron surprised you last wk. That was probably hard to say goodbye again but I agree with you that absence really does make the heart grow fonder so you have THAT to look forward too :) I never asked you but why can't you guys move down there during this time? How's it going living at your madre's? It's nice you have so much family to help out. Anyway, this is more like a public email rather than a comment...love ya Jess!
